ABSTRACT

IntroductionThe development of high-quality physical education curriculums is required in the information age. Interdisciplinary literacy and student learning behavior are two significant factors that affect the quality of teaching and learning. This study explores the relationship between interdisciplinary literacy (IDL) and learning effects (LE) among Chinese college students during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the mediating effects of online physical education learning behaviors (OPELB). This research aims to provide a reference for the development of high-quality online physical education. MethodsThe study involved 691 college students from 10 general universities in Shaanxi Province as research subjects. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and Bootstrap testing were used to evaluate the mediating effects. ResultsThere was a significant positive relationship between the three variables of IDL, OPELB, and LE (p < 0.001). Multiple regression analysis found that IDL significantly and positively predicted LE and OPELB (p < 0.001), and OPELB predicted LE (p < 0.001). IDL among college students had a total effect of 0.816 on LE, with OPELB accounting for 22.67% of the mediated effect. DiscussionThis study demonstrates that OPELB has a partial mediating effect on IL and LE, and stable IDL and OPELB improve LE. Therefore, teachers should pay attention to improving students' IDL while encouraging them to develop better OPELB to achieve satisfactory learning outcomes.

ABSTRACT

The paper analyses the processes of assessment of situations of dependency in Spain and the role of Social Work in them. The study provides new information, trying to detect possible influences of Covid-19 on these processes and analysing existing territorial disparities. From an intentional documentary search, information was subsequently collected from the General Directorates or Sub -directorates, or the autonomous Institutes of social services through an ad hoc questionnaire, obtaining responses from the universe of analysis units (17 autonomous communities). Said information was organized into three categories of analysis: mandatory nature of the social report in the assessment of situations of dependency;place of application of the DAS and the SRS;and professional profiles of the teams for assessing dependency situations. The results show, among other results, the existence of very different interprofessional teams, the application of the scale in divergent contexts, and the different relevance of the social report in the processes. In conclusion, the need to deepen the inclusion of the social report and the professional figure of Social Work in the assessment processes is evident by contributing to the improvement of the coordination of objectives, processes, and resources.

ABSTRACT

The urgent need for a clear focus on mental health and well-being on university and college campuses became clear, and approaches to address physical, mental, and emotional well-being on campus have become prominent topics in higher education publications such the Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Ed. For many participants, and certainly for those of us organizing, the conference community became a way to discover innovative ways to approach this new teaching and learning environment and to retain hope in our students, in ourselves, and in the potential power of writing to heal, build, and change. Calls to operationalize socioemotional learning's (SEL) strengths-based approaches have prompted some scholars to propose over the past two decades that there is a "socio-emotional health crisis" in the United States with estimates ranging from 25-50% of high school students engaging in high-risk behaviors. Charles McMartin, Eric A. House, and Thomas Miller describe how culturally-engaged approaches such as hip hop pedagogy can support students' personal well-being and collective wellness as they develop social resilience.

[...]the course supports writing growth through rhetorical practices, a process approach, and authentic audiences, while also asking students to explore and experiment with writing practices to improve their individual wellness. Under the leadership of Chancellor Rebecca Chopp (2014-2019), DU launched a new strategic plan in 2016-IMPACT 2025-which included enhanced attention to global and collaborative learning, community-engaged and cross-disciplinary work, and several capital projects to foster economic growth and neighborhood engagement. Following a two-year process of planning and development by faculty, staff, and administrators from across campus, the University launched this "4D Experience" to support students in four dimensions: advancing intellectual growth, exploring character, pursuing careers and lives of purpose, and cultivating well-being (Hernandez). In this way, the course fits within both the UWP model of writing and the University's minor in wellness that "weaves together many different disciplines, curricula, and facets of experience to promote conscious growth and dynamic balance in life" ("Wellness Minor" 185). [...]after its initial offering through the UWP (as WRIT 2701), the writing course is now officially homed in the wellness minor (as WELL 2100) and cross-listed in the applied writing category of the writing minor.

ABSTRACT

The label "autoethnography” has been applied to a wide range of knowledge-producing practices, from what might be considered "normal” science to narrative-driven writing to performance. These debates highlight some of the most fundamental tensions about legitimate ways of knowing/ knowledge production in the contemporary world. Further, one strength of autoethnography as a method lies in situating personal experience within broader political, social, and cultural events, which can create new opportunities in academia for voices often silenced. With these elements of autoethnography in mind, and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the authors founded an interdisciplinary autoethnography course cluster and lab at Oberlin College and Conservatory. In this essay, we describe the course cluster, lab, and successes and challenges of each. We also discuss the strategies and innovations of introducing undergraduate students to autoethnography. We hope that our model will be instructive for colleagues with similar goals at their institutions. Through the cross-course workshops and collaborative exercises of the autoethnography lab, our students had the opportunity to use autoethnography not just to analyze their communities but also to build a community of practice. © 2023 by The Regents of the University of California. Air quality and environmental justice To introduce how socioeconomic status affects the physical aspects of exposure to differing air-quality levels, students used an anthropological technique of comparison to "make the strange familiar and the familiar strange." Students analyzed a New York Times story revealing the air-quality inequities of two teens residing in India: "Who Gets to Breathe Clean Air in New Delhi?" For 25 minutes, students interact with the website and reflect on paper: * One new and interesting fact that they encountered in the article about air quality, * How they think the information might relate to air quality in the United States, and * What, if anything, they think we could do to help increase awareness about these types of environmental disparities. For the next 35 minutes, students search online for articles about air quality and environmental justice in the area near our school's location. The data from real-time air quality index reports are available on every cell phone, and students decided to record it on a calendar to chart in Excel.

The reason why the Organizing Committee decided to change the traditional formula of the event to online formula was related to the concern for the health of the participants due to the COVID-19 epidemic.The XXII Conference of PhD Students and Young Scientists took place from June 29th to July 1st, 2022 in Wroclaw, Poland. That is the organizers worked and managed the event from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology Geocentre building. Because the conference focused on four thematic panels, four different special opening lectures were delivered by wellknown scientists- Professor Jan Zalasiewicz (University of Leicester, England)- Associate Professor Artur Krawczyk (AGH University of Science and Technology, Poland)- Professor Biljana Kovacević-Zelić (University of Zagreb, Croatia)- Assistant Professor Eduard Kan (Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanizations Engineers, Uzbekistan).The Conference was divided into 8 oral sessions (with 33 presentations) and 1 poster session (with 33 posters). The amount of time provided to one presentation was 15 minutes, after presentation there was 5 minutes available for discussion. The poster session was available throughout the event, and the posters were available for online viewing on the Conference's website with the possibility of make discussion and ask questions in real time via zoom meeting application as well. Every day of the Conference one "virtual coffee break” was devoted for discussion between participants and question and answer session for the Organizers.There were 96 registered participants from 13 countries. The online XXII Conference of PhD Students and Young Scientists was conducted using the Zoom meeting platform with commemorative screen shots taken. By tradition two competitions, for the best oral presentation and for the best poster were held. The award for the best oral presentation was given ex aequo to Julia Tiganj (TH Georg Agricola University of Applied Sciences, Germany) for the presentation entitled Post-mining goes international: hurdles to climate neutrality using the example of China and Oksana Khomiak, Jörg Benndorf (TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany) for the presentation entitled Spectral analysis of ore hyperspectral images at different stages of the mining value chain, whereas the best poster was awarded to Adam Wróblewski, Jacek Wodecki, Paweł Trybała, Radosław Zimroz (Wrocław University of Science and technology, Poland) for the poster entitled Large underground structures geometry evaluation based on point cloud data analysis.List of Scientific Committee, Organizing Committee, Editorial Team are available i this pdf.

ABSTRACT

Team science refers to research initiatives considered in collaboration with scientists from different disciplines or fields. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis for visualization of global research activity concerning the combination of cancer and the COVID-19 pandemic using a team science approach. A bibliometric study was implemented using Web of Science from 2019 to 2021. We analyzed citations to identify description and citations analysis of results, most prolific countries, international research collaboration, most prolific institutions, research areas, most cited papers, and most productive journals. The preliminary data of 2,313 studies that adopted a team science approach were recorded and analyzed. Team science is becoming progressively popular in cancer research. The United States was the most active country, followed by Italy and China. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy had the highest level of cooperation with other countries. The most prolific institution was Harvard University, followed by University of London and the University of Texas System. Head and Neck Journal for the Sciences and Specialties of the Head and Neck, Frontiers in Oncology, and eCancerMedicalScience were the most productive journals. Governments, organizations, policymakers, and researchers should pay attention to team science approach at times of disasters such as cancer and COVID-19 to achieve the best strategies for controlling cancer that is currently a world problem.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: In the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, the global COVID-19 pandemic appeared amidst existing social health challenges in food insecurity, housing precarity and homelessness, poor mental health, and substance misuse. These chronic features intersected with the pandemic, producing a moment in time when the urgency of COVID-19 brought attention to underlying shortcomings in public health services. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of the program of research are (1) to identify and measure relationships between the pandemic and wider health and social impacts, namely, food insecurity, housing precarity and homelessness, and mental health and substance use in Saskatchewan, and (2) to create an oral history of the pandemic in Saskatchewan in an accessible digital public archive. METHODS: We are using a mixed methods approach to identify the impacts of the pandemic on specific equity-seeking groups and areas of social health concern by developing cross-sectional population-based surveys and producing results based on statistical analysis. We augmented the quantitative analysis by conducting qualitative interviews and oral histories to generate more granular details of people's experiences of the pandemic. We are focusing on frontline workers, other service providers, and individuals within equity-seeking groups. We are capturing digital evidence and social media posts; we are collecting and organizing key threads using a free open-source research tool, Zotero, to trace the digital evidence of the pandemic in Saskatchewan. This study is approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Saskatchewan (Beh-1945). RESULTS: Funding for this program of research was received in March and April 2022. Survey data were collected between July and November 2022. The collection of oral histories began in June 2022 and concluded in March 2023. In total, 30 oral histories have been collected at the time of this writing. Qualitative interviews began in April 2022 and will continue until March 2024. Survey analysis began in January 2023, and results are expected to be published in mid-2023. All data and stories collected in this work are archived for preservation and freely accessible on the Remember Rebuild Saskatchewan project's website. We will share results in academic journals and conferences, town halls and community gatherings, social and digital media reports, and through collaborative exhibitions with public library systems. CONCLUSIONS: The pandemic's ephemeral nature poses a risk of us "forgetting" this moment and the attendant social inequities. These challenges inspired a novel fusion among health researchers, historians, librarians, and service providers in the creation of the Remember Rebuild Saskatchewan project, which focuses on preserving the legacy of the pandemic and capturing data to support an equitable recovery in Saskatchewan. ABSTRACT

In the United States, one in six children has an intellectual and/or developmental disability (I/DD), including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, seizures, and developmental delays, with or without intellectual impairment. Individuals with I/DDs experience disproportionate rates of immune, metabolic, cardiovascular, and neurological disorders, as well as anxiety, depression, functional somatic symptoms, and other co-occurring physical and mental health conditions. During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, having an I/DD emerged as one of the strongest predictors of contracting and dying from COVID-19. These findings spurred increased attention toward the myriad health inequities affecting this population well before the pandemic. While inequities for individuals with I/DD can be traced to many factors, social determinants of health (SDOH) - the underlying social, economic, and environmental conditions that lead to poor health outcomes and high healthcare costs - are key contributors. Our interdisciplinary combined internal medicine and pediatrics (Med-Peds) team of physicians, psychologists, and researchers within a large, diverse, academic health system aimed to pilot-test the implementation of a five-item SDOH screener within a Med-Peds specialty clinic focused on the developmental needs of individuals with I/DD and their families (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities {LEND}) and a general primary care practice (PCP). The SDOH screener tested in this initiative includes five items from the Accountable Health Communities (AHC) Health-Related Social Needs Screening Tool (HRSN) assessing social isolation, food insecurity, transportation, and paying for basic needs, such as housing and medical care. In this study, we describe the process of implementing this screener and collecting initial pilot data from 747 patients between October 2022 and April 2023 across the LEND and the primary care practice. We also highlight the challenges and opportunities identified during the mid-way point of implementation and pilot testing. The results of this pilot study revealed low response rates among SDOH screeners, spurring several measures to increase uptake, including increasing the accessibility of the screener and ensuring the screener results in effective referrals. We call on additional Med-Peds healthcare teams without universal SDOH screening protocols in place - particularly those serving the I/DD population - to consider adopting these practices.

ABSTRACT

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease with a high health, social and economic impact, particularly in the case of Severe Uncontrolled Asthma (SUA). For this reason, new strategies are especially necessary to improve its approach, with a personalized approach to each patient and from a multidisciplinary perspective, in addition to integrating the new telemedicine and telepharmacy practices promoted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, the TEAM 2.0 project ("Work in Multidisciplinary Asthma Teams") has been developed, following the TEAM project carried out in 2019, with the aim of updating and prioritizing good multidisciplinary work practices in SUA in a post pandemic context and analyze the progress made. A coordinating group, made up of eight multidisciplinary teams of hospital pharmacists, pulmonologists, and allergists, carried out an updated bibliographic review, sharing of good multidisciplinary practices, and analysis of advances. Through five regional meetings with other experts with experience in SUA, the good practices identified were shared and subjected to debate, evaluation and prioritization. In total, 23 good multidisciplinary work practices in SUA, grouped into five work areas: 1) Organization of work in multidisciplinary teams, 2) Patient education, self-management and adherence, 3) Health results, data monitoring and persistence, 4) Telepharmacy and experiences implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic and 5) Training and research, were evaluated and prioritized by 57 professionals from the field of Hospital Pharmacy, Pulmonology, Allergology and Nursing. This work has made it possible to update the roadmap of priority actions to continue advancing in optimal models of care for patients with AGNC in a post-COVID-19 context.

ABSTRACT

Increased migration and im/migrant (i.e. migrant and immigrant) inequities, particularly during COVID-19, call for experiential global public health teaching to adequately prepare future leaders. We evaluated student perspectives on the benefits, drawbacks, and lessons learned from a migrant health field course in the U.S.-Mexico border region. We analyzed qualitative data from reflexive diary-writing assignments and post-course evaluations from graduate and undergraduate students (N = 12). Students highlighted personal growth and reflexivity, professional development opportunities, and benefits and drawbacks of the immersive course design as key themes. Tri-national learning across Canada, Mexico and the U.S., and an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural learning model allowed for deeper understandings of globally relevant and politically and socially complex issues through community engagement and 'real-world' approaches. Students described benefits of reflexive learning, bridging classroom-based learning with field experiences, and learning about community-engaged research in advancing im/migrant justice, though acknowledged challenges of intensive course design. Narratives highlighted unique needs in navigating challenges inherent in reflexive learning on sensitive topics, such as structural inequities faced by asylum seekers. This evaluation provides unique empirical evidence to inform future experiential learning opportunities rooted in equity-oriented approaches, which are crucial for advancing hands-on learning regarding global issues. ABSTRACT

Background/Aims Patient education in early inflammatory arthritis (EIA) promotes understanding and engagement with treatment, empowering patients to use self-management in their long-term health condition. It is embedded in national guidance and audit. Individual appointments are time consuming, and groups sessions became impossible during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our education sessions have evolved to a monthly online meeting which aims to be engaging, effective and time efficient. Methods Face-to-face group education afternoons were previously embedded into our early arthritis pathway. Presentations and opportunities for questions were given by a rheumatology consultant, nurse, physiotherapist, podiatrist and occupational therapist. Sessions lasted 2 hours and local charity representatives attended. Group education sessions completely stopped with the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. This successful MDT model was moved to a monthly Microsoft Teams meeting and condensed to 1 hour. Sessions continue to consist of five short presentations, introduction to charity representatives and opportunity for questions. Following the session, all patients received links to videos of the talks for future reference, contact details for the MDT and local charities, and a link to download our local rheumatology self management app. Patients who are unable to attend also receive this content by email. Patient feedback was gathered through an online questionnaire. Results Attendance has increased over time with 75% of our new EIA patients now attending each month. Feedback from 16 patients rated 75% of all talks as extremely useful or useful. 89% are interested in attending future meetings. 93% had already used or plan to use our rheumatology self management app. Positive patient feedback included: ''the whole team were brilliant giving advice and answering questions'', ''nice to see the specialists' faces, and to get the feeling they really cared'', and ''a perfectly sensible and productive way to introduce all the options for help and support''. Some patients did not feel confident to ask questions in the meeting. Email and telephone advice lines were signposted. Attendance was increased by 40% by a short telephone reminder of the appointment. Conclusion An online meeting has proven to be a time efficient and effective way of providing multidisciplinary education and introducing self management. A short time investment from each MDT member gives breadth to the education. Inviting all newly diagnosed early arthritis patients and encouraging attendance by a short telephone call has maximised reach. Ensuring all patients are sent presentation videos to re-watch and the self referral details further facilitates self management. The format could easily be adapted to other patient education events.

COVID-19 highlights the lack of interdisciplinary medical talents. The international history of medical education shows the urgent need of high-level interdisciplinary medical talents. Anchoring the goal to develop a global center of talents and highland of innovation, this article takes medical education of Zhejiang University as an example, focusing on and exploring the training mode of high-level interdisciplinary medical talents in the new era. It includes: Firstly, optimizing the training mode of eight-year program for medical doctors with non-medical bachelor degree followed with complete education for a medical doctorate that innovates the curriculum system of clinical medicine;secondly, creating the training system of postdoctor of clinical medicine and integrating medical resources that include high-quality talents and health care system, in order to build a high-quality teaching staff with a interdisciplinarity background and innovative bases. It not only strengthens the residents' competency and frontier creativity, but also ensures the sustainable development of interdisciplinary medical talents. ABSTRACT

Background. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is often associated with people who inject drugs, and with a reduction in quality of life. While earlier forms of HCV treatment had low treatment uptake, newer HCV treatment integrated with opioid maintenance treatment appears to increase treatment uptake among those who inject drugs. The aim was to explore how people who inject drugs perceive changes in quality of life after treatment of HCV infection. Methods. Four focus group discussions, and 19 individual interviews were conducted with people who inject drugs or who had previously injected drugs and received opioid agonist therapy. All participants were successfully treated for and "cured” for HCV. Data were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Results. The HCV treatment helped participants to let go of negative thoughts and break destructive patterns of interaction. This facilitated the restoration of social relationships with family and others. Furthermore, some participants reported a general improvement in their health. Feeling healthy meant fewer worries such as infecting others. Also, interactions with health professionals were experienced as less stigmatizing. These physical, social, and psychological improvements led to a form of "awakening” and being treated for HCV gave participants hope for the future. Conclusion. HCV treatment improves the mental and physical health in addition to play an important social function. Successful HCV treatment was associated with a greater sense of hope for the future, reconnection with significant others, and reduced feeling of stigma. Overall, improved health and social relationships contributed to improved quality of life.

ABSTRACT

We utilize classification systems research to examine the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on marginalized communities and the failures of policy makers to adequately respond to those most in need. Classification situations are individual positions within the market, generated via the mass collection and aggregation of individual financial and behavioral data, that are used to categorize people into price-differentiated opportunities. In a financialized economy, where profits are increasingly accumulated through financial channels, thereby entrenching the role of financial institutions and motives at the center of economic activity, one's classification situation operates to maximize value for shareholders. Importantly, in a neoliberal economy, where the logic of the market is used to guide social and political policy more broadly, classification situations are the mechanism by which individuals are allocated resources, opportunities, hardships, and other socio-political economic outcomes. In this paper we argue that the fiscal and monetary responses to COVID-19 were designed to support financialized interests and, as a consequence, the resources and protections of the state were allocated not to those most at risk but, rather, to those whose classification situation promised a stronger return on investment. © 2023 The Association for Social Economics.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThis study aims to reveal the topic structure and evolutionary trends of health informatics research in library and information science.Design/methodology/approachUsing publications in Web of Science core collection, this study combines informetrics and content analysis to reveal the topic structure and evolutionary trends of health informatics research in library and information science. The analyses are conducted by Pajek, VOSviewer and Gephi.FindingsThe health informatics research in library and information science can be divided into five subcommunities: health information needs and seeking behavior, application of bibliometrics in medicine, health information literacy, health information in social media and electronic health records. Research on health information literacy and health information in social media is the core of research. Most topics had a clear and continuous evolutionary venation. In the future, health information literacy and health information in social media will tend to be the mainstream. There is room for systematic development of research on health information needs and seeking behavior.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to analyze the topic structure and evolutionary trends of health informatics research based on the perspective of library and information science. This study helps identify the concerns and contributions of library and information science to health informatics research and provides compelling evidence for researchers to understand the current state of research.

ABSTRACT

Stormwater harvesting via managed aquifer recharge in retrofitted infrastructure has been posited as a method for resource augmentation in Cape Town. However, the existing guidelines on stormwater retrofits are technically inclined, occidental, and generally misaligned with the realities and socio-economic contexts of developing nations like South Africa. Water and urban practitioners from developing nations cannot just 'copy and paste' existing guidelines as different socio-economic dimensions and colonial histories typically hinder 'traditional' approaches. This paper assesses how a transdisciplinary team navigated these realities in a case study of a retrofitted pond in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. A decolonial thinking framework was applied for reflection and thematic content analysis. The framework was used to unpack how the team encountered, addressed, and learned from the challenges during the retrofit process. The research team found that the retrofit process within a context of under-resourced South African communities can be viewed as developmental work with a strong emphasis on continuous community engagement. Thus, it is suggested that in the South African context, water practitioners should consider, at the fore, interaction with local communities, including awareness of racialised histories, to ensure projects are successfully implemented and completed.

ABSTRACT

Rural and remote populations are predisposed to poorer health outcomes, largely associated with limited access to health services and health professionals. This disparity provides an opportunity for health professionals to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams to deliver improved health outcomes for rural and remote communities. This study aims to explore exercise physiologist and podiatrist perceptions of interprofessional practice opportunities with pharmacists. Role theory provided a framework for this qualitative study. Interviews were conducted, recorded, transcribed, and thematically analysed according to the constructs of role theory (role identity, role sufficiency, role overload, role conflict, and role ambiguity). The perceptions of participants varied, largely due to the lack of understanding of the role and scope of the practice of a pharmacist. Participants acknowledged and adopted a flexible approach to the way in which they delivered health services to meet the needs of the community. They also described a more "generalist" approach to care, owing to the high prevalence of disease and disease complexity, along with a lack of staffing and resources. The potential for increased interprofessional collaboration was supported and identified as a strategy to manage significant workloads and provide improved patient healthcare. The application of role theory to this qualitative study provides insight into perceptions of interprofessional practice that may inform future development of remote practice models of care.
